Annual Grant

Annually, FAUSA solicits applications from it’s members for deserving charity organizations which concerns their interest in the global community. The grant(s) are financially funded and operationally administered by FAUSA. The number of grants and amounts are determined by the board at the beginning of each year.

The following are the broad requirements to be considered for a grant:

  1. A person must be a FAUSA member in good standing, must have been a FAUSA member for one year prior to grant application submission and must have supported the grantee’s organization for at least a year. Support can be financial contributions, physical contributions, active engagement, or through volunteering.
  2. At least one grant will be made for a project in the USA or Canada and one grant will be made irrespective of geography, if a second grant is approved.
  3. For projects located in the USA or Canada, organizations must be registered as a § 501(c)(3) of the Code and vetted through a charity portal. For projects located outside this area, organizations will be evaluated through independent reviews and testimonials, an examination of the finances and a check of the organization’s history.
  4. Grantee organizations cannot be affiliated with a political party nor show any favor to a particular religion or religious ideology.
  5. An organization can be awarded an annual grant no more than twice in a six year period.
  6. Grants are managed through a signed grant agreement. Funds will only be distributed after a grant agreement has been executed and no later than the end of FAUSA’s fiscal year.

There is also a racial disparity connected to these food insecurity statistics: 49% of Black households; 30% of Hispanic households; compared to 21% of White households experiencing food insecurity. Our donation will have an impact on the children, families, seniors and individuals living in this food desert.

2. The Sewing Labs, Kansas City, MO, USA

The Sewing Labs’ initiatives include two focus areas.

  • The workforce development area teaches sewing skills as a pathway out of poverty and toward employment and/or entrepreneurship. The 30-week workforce development training equips students with marketable skills and experience to secure stable, well-paying employment in the sewing industry. The program provides industry-leading sewing machine operator training, job placement services, and a supportive community. After completion, participants secure paid full-time apprenticeships locally with partnering employers.
  • The community area focuses on preserving the multi-generational legacy of sewing while fostering health, well-being, and creativity. Creative community workshops offer instruction while also promoting mental health/well-being. Regular participation in these activities reduces stress, builds social connections, and supports overall mental wellness. Certifications are available in various sewing skills, contributing to personal development and a sense of accomplishment.
